化学工程（Chemical Engineering），简称化工，是研究以化学工业为代表的，以及其他过程工业（如石油炼制工业、冶金工业、食品工业、印染工业等）生产过程中有关化学过程与物理过程的一般原理和规律，并应用这些规律来解决过程及装置的开发、设计、操作及优化问题的工程技术学科。四大工程领域分别有：土木工程、机械工程、电气工程、化学工程。其中，化学工程占据小的部分，但是，在行业内薪水确实高的。
化学与化学工程
化学是化学工程的基础，化学就是各类化学分支的介绍，而化学工程仅需要简单的普通化学知识，更重要的是动量传递，热量传递，质量传递和化学反应过程，简称三传一反。化学偏重理论性，化工偏重实验与经验。
化学工程与材料工程
材料工程主要是研究材料的各种性能、制备方法、开发新材料、新性能，不仅需要化学上的知识，还需要各种物理上的知识。比如材料的微观结构，材料的力学性能，抗酸抗腐蚀等！化学工程是研究化学工业和其他过程工业 (process industry) 生产中所进行的化学过程和物理过程共同规律的一门工程学科。
